How to Change Your Hytale Server MOTD (Description)

The MOTD (Message Of The Day) is the description that appears when players see your server in their multiplayer list. It's your server's first impression!

🎯 What is the MOTD?

The MOTD is the text displayed under your server name in the Hytale server list. It's the perfect opportunity to:

Welcome your players
Present your server
Display important information
Set the tone for your community

1️⃣ Access the Configuration File

Log in to your LordHosting management panel.
Select your Hytale server.
Go to the File Manager tab.
Open the config.json file at the server root.

2️⃣ Modify the MOTD

Find line 4 in the config.json file:

   "MOTD": "Welcome to Re:Craft server",

Change the text between the quotes to your own message:

   "MOTD": "Your custom message here",

Save the file.

3️⃣ Restart the Server

For the changes to take effect:

Go back to the Console tab.
Click Restart to restart the server.

4️⃣ Check the Result

Launch Hytale.
Go to Multiplayer.
Refresh the server list.
Your new message should appear under the server name!

⚠️ Common Errors

❌ MOTD doesn't change after restart

Solutions:

Check that you saved the config.json file
Make sure there's no JSON syntax error
Quotes must be present: "MOTD": "text",
Don't forget the comma at the end of the line (except last line)

❌ Server won't start anymore

Cause: Syntax error in the JSON file

Solution:

Check that all quotes and commas are properly placed
Use an online JSON validator if needed
Restore a backup of the file if necessary

❌ MOTD is cut off

Cause: Message is too long

Solution: Reduce your message length (approximately 50-60 characters max recommended)
