What is Hytale?
A game 10 years in the making
Hytale's development started in 2015 at Hypixel Studios, the studio behind the famous Hypixel Minecraft server. Announced in December 2018, the trailer surpassed 31 million views in one month. After Riot Games cancelled the project in June 2025, the original founders bought back the rights in November 2025 and reformed Hypixel Studios as an independent studio.
Hytale entered early access on January 13, 2026, via the Hytale Launcher, currently Windows-only.
A next-generation voxel universe
Hytale takes place in Orbis, a procedural world divided into distinct zones: Emerald Wilds (lush forests), Howling Sands (hostile desert), Kiln of Kethia (volcanic lands) and Devastated Lands. The game combines an Exploration (survival) mode, a Creative mode and a future Adventure mode (narrative RPG).
Powerful modding system from day one
Hytale is designed to be highly moddable from day one. Official tools, APIs and documentation are available from early access. A modding contest with $100,000 in prizes was even launched in partnership with CurseForge.
